Levels Function

As you can tell, there is almost always more than one way to do something in Photoshop. The one you choose depends on the look you want.

Image 5 (contrast +100)

Image 6 (contrast +90)

1. Start with an image in the grayscale mode (Image 1).

2. To create a posterization effect with levels (Image>Adjustments>Levels), simply move the triangular black and white sliders in close to the middle of the histogram (Image 7). The closer they are to the center, the more compressed the tonal range becomes (i.e., the closer to pure black & white tones only) (Image 8).
